A: Begin by selecting the “Add Accessory” button or "+" and the app will scan your Home network to locate any smart accessory that is powered on and is HomeKit-enabled. You must ensure that both the device with the Home application and your HomeKit or other smart devices are connected to the same local network (must be a 2.4 GHz channel). Select the accessory and you will then provide the 8-digit setup code that should be on either the accessory itself or with its packaging. A camera frame in the Home application will also appear which will let you capture the HomeKit code (similar to a QR code) without having to manually enter it in.

When it is done, the Home app will pair with the HomeKit device and then reroute you to the Add Accessory screen to finish the pairing process. You will be able to rename the accessories to custom names but would make things easy for users if they are words that can be recognized by Siri if you wanted to take advantage of the voice commands. You may also designate the location of the device with Living Room, Dining Room, and Bedroom being the default options. You can add more locations, rename existing ones and group together specific devices in your Favorites to pin your accessories to on the Home tab in the Home app and, also, the Control Center in iOS 10 and above.
