Does the Triple 4K Docking Station work with a USB-A connection?
Yes, there is an included USB-C-to-USB-A adapter with the dock for connecting to a host device via USB-A. Using USB connections, DisplayLink lets you break through this barrier and connect multiple monitors to your computer without needing built-in video ports.
Note: Requires installation of DisplayLink Software before using.
Is DisplayLink Software required?
Yes, for full functionality and to utilize the Display groups 2 and 3 (DisplayPort and HDMI) on the dock, we recommend following the link below, where you will find the file to download the software: https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics#downloads
macOS: Screen Recording Permission
macOS requires the user to permit "Screen Recording" for DisplayLink driver to work properly. Approving it enables the DisplayLink to access the pixels it needs to render a mirrored or extended screen and send the pixels over USB from your computer to the DisplayLink display. DisplayLink Manager does not send any data or pixels back to DisplayLink/Synaptics.
User is notified about a need for Screen Recording permission in three places.
- By macOS dialog box on first DisplayLink device plug-in
- By DisplayLink driver on each device plug-in:
- By DisplayLink Manager app warning in macOS status bar:
To approve the permission, please follow these steps:
- Open System Settings;
- Go to Privacy & Security > Screen Recording;
- From Screen Recording tab toggle DisplayLink Manager;
- Authenticate the changes by using your login details;
- Click Quit & Reopen.
Once permissions are granted a new icon will show up in the macOS status bar:
macOS Sonoma introduces a new screen recording control, called screen sharing picker to help manage all the screen recording sessions.
See the following article for all the information about the new screen sharing picker: macOS Sonoma 14: Screen Sharing Picker and Stop Sharing Button (DisplayLink KB article no longer available).
