Frequently Asked Questions
How to Install SiliconMotion InstantView for macOS and Windows
The MX Adapter requires the InstantView app by SiliconMotion to support multi-display HDMI output. Without it, only one HDMI port will output video.
macOS: Download the latest version from SiliconMotion Downloads. Select the macOS InstantView installer at the top of the list. Supported on macOS Catalina through Sequoia.
Windows: Download from the same SiliconMotion Downloads page. Select the Windows installer. Supported on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

FreeSync Workaround for Samsung Monitor Discoloration
Some Samsung monitors with FreeSync enabled may show color distortion when connected through the MX Adapter. To fix this:
- Open your Samsung monitor's OSD menu.
- Navigate to System > FreeSync.
- Set FreeSync to Off.
This resolves the discoloration without affecting normal display performance.
What Ports Does the MX Adapter Include?
- 2x HDMI 2.0: Supports up to 4K @ 60Hz (single display) or dual 4K @ 30Hz (with InstantView)
- 1x USB-C PD: Up to 100W pass-through charging
- 2x USB-A 3.0: Up to 5 Gbps data transfer
- 1x Gigabit Ethernet: 10/100/1000 Mbps wired networking
- 1x SD / 1x Micro SD: UHS-I card reader slots
- 1x 3.5mm Audio Jack: Headphone/microphone combo
Does the MX Adapter Support Dual Monitors on Mac?
Yes, with the InstantView app installed. Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4) natively support only one external display via HDMI. InstantView uses a USB virtual display driver to enable the second HDMI port, allowing dual external monitors.
Is This Adapter Compatible With My Device?
The MX Adapter works with any USB-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 equipped device, including:
- MacBook Pro / MacBook Air (2018 and later)
- Mac Mini, Mac Studio, iMac (USB-C models)
- iPad Pro (USB-C) and iPad Air (M1 and later)
- Windows laptops with USB-C or Thunderbolt
- Chromebooks with USB-C
Troubleshooting
No Video Output on Second HDMI
Install the InstantView app. If already installed, make sure it is running (check your menu bar on Mac or system tray on Windows). Restart the app if needed.
Ethernet Not Working
macOS: No driver needed. If not detected, go to System Settings > Network and check that the USB Ethernet adapter appears. Try a different Ethernet cable.
Windows: The adapter should install drivers automatically. If not, check Device Manager for an unknown network device and update the driver.
