SiliconMotion InstantView: Complete Setup Guide for Mac and Windows
What Is InstantView?
InstantView is required software for dual-display setups on Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4) and some Windows systems. It enables your Satechi hub or adapter to support multiple external displays simultaneously. Without InstantView, you're limited to one display.
System Requirements
- macOS: 10.13 or later (tested on Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia)
- Windows: Windows 10 or later
- Free disk space: At least 50 MB
Installing InstantView on Mac
Step 1: Download InstantView from support.satechi.com (search for your specific hub or adapter model).
Step 2: Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag InstantView to your Applications folder.
Step 3: Open Applications, right-click InstantView, and select "Open." macOS may ask to confirm the installation.
Step 4: Grant permissions when prompted. On newer macOS versions, you may need to approve Screen Recording permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
Step 5: Restart your Mac for changes to take effect.
Installing InstantView on Windows
Step 1: Download the InstantView installer from support.satechi.com.
Step 2: Run the .exe file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 3: Restart your computer to complete installation.
Troubleshooting Common Installation Issues
"InstantView is damaged and can't be opened" (Mac)
This happens if macOS blocks the app. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down to the InstantView notification, and click "Open Anyway."
InstantView won't start after installation
Mac: Check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording. InstantView needs this permission. If it's not listed, remove InstantView from Applications and reinstall.
Windows: Run InstantView as Administrator. Right-click the app, select "Run as Administrator," and retry.
Installation fails with a permissions error
Mac: Restart your Mac and try again. Ensure you have admin access to your account.
Windows: Disable antivirus temporarily during installation, as some security software blocks installers. Re-enable after.
Displays still not working after InstantView installation
Restart your computer first. Then unplug all displays, restart again, and reconnect. If the issue persists, contact support@satechi.com with your product model and macOS/Windows version.
Supported Versions
Check support.satechi.com for the latest InstantView version. Older macOS or Windows versions may have limited compatibility. If you're on an older OS and InstantView won't install, contact support.
