Setup

The Aluminum Type-C to USB 3.0 Adapter is plug-and-play — no drivers or software required on macOS, Windows, or Chrome OS.

Step 1: Plug the USB-C connector (Port 1) into the USB-C or Thunderbolt port on your laptop or tablet.
Step 2: Connect your USB-A accessory, flash drive, cable, or peripheral into the USB Type-A port (Port 3). The connection is detected automatically.

Important Notes

Data transfer only — no video output: This adapter is designed for data transfer and device connectivity. It does not support video output to external displays.

Apple CarPlay compatible: When used with a compatible MFi-certified cable, this adapter supports Apple CarPlay on compatible vehicles. Use a genuine MFi-certified USB-C to Lightning or USB-C to USB-C cable for CarPlay compatibility.

USB 3.0 speeds require a USB 3.0 host and accessory: To achieve up to 5 Gbps transfer speeds, both the host USB-C port and the connected USB-A accessory must support USB 3.0. Connecting a USB 2.0 device will result in USB 2.0 speeds (up to 480 Mbps).

Use genuine cables for sync: For the best and most reliable syncing experience, Satechi recommends using genuine certified cables with this adapter.

What can I connect to this adapter?
You can connect any USB-A device, including flash drives, keyboards, mice, USB hubs, gaming controllers, USB-A cables (Lightning, USB-A to USB-A), and more. It also supports Apple CarPlay with a compatible MFi-certified cable.

Can I use this with my iPhone or iPad?
This adapter is primarily for USB-C host devices (laptops, tablets with USB-C). To connect a USB-A cable or accessory to an iPhone, you would use this adapter on a USB-C host device, not directly on the iPhone.

Does this work with Apple CarPlay?
Yes. Connect the adapter to your USB-C laptop or tablet, then use a compatible MFi-certified USB-A to Lightning cable (for older iPhones) to connect to your vehicle's USB-A port for wired CarPlay.

What operating systems are supported?
macOS, Windows, and Chrome OS. The adapter is plug-and-play on all supported platforms — no drivers required.

Will this work at USB 2.0 speeds if my device doesn't support USB 3.0?
Yes. The adapter is backward compatible with USB 2.0. If either the host port or the connected accessory is USB 2.0, the connection operates at USB 2.0 speeds (up to 480 Mbps).
