This User Manual covers setup, features, compatibility, and specifications for the Satechi USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure (ST-EU4SNSS).

Product Overview

The USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure holds an M.2 NVMe SSD (2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280, up to 8TB max) and connects to your host device through its USB4 Host Port (40Gbps) using the included USB4 Host Cable (15cm). It has a Cable Compartment and a Twist-off SSD Cover, and it is plug and play.

Setup

Plug and play in three steps:

1. Install your SSD: Open the Twist-off SSD Cover and install an M.2 NVMe SSD (see SSD Installation below).
2. Connect to your host device: Connect the enclosure to your host device using the included USB4 cable.
3. Format your SSD: If using a brand new SSD, format the drive to support the host device operating system.

Unlocking and locking the Twist-off SSD Cover

To unlock:
1. Hold the cover and use the finger grooves to twist it clockwise.
2. Lift the cover off to access the SSD compartment.

To lock:
1. Carefully align the triangle (arrow) on the cover with the notch on the enclosure. Improper alignment may cause the cover to get stuck.
2. Insert the clips on the cover into the enclosure.
3. Twist the cover counterclockwise using the finger grooves until it clicks into place.

SSD Installation

1. Remove plastic from one side of the thermal pad. Align and apply sticky side to the enclosure.
2. Remove top plastic before installing SSD.
3. Insert an M.2 NVMe SSD at a 30° angle.
4. Use included screw and screwdriver to lock SSD into place.

Note: If using a brand new SSD, format the drive to support the host device operating system. Compatible with M.2 NVMe SSD drives.

1. USB4 Host Port (40Gbps)

5. Thermal Pad: Remove plastic from one side and apply the sticky side to the enclosure. Remove the top plastic before installing the SSD.
6. M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure (2230/2242/2260/2280) (up to 8TB max): Compatible with M.2 NVMe SSD drives. Not compatible with SATA SSDs or SSDs with heat-sinks.

9. Twist-off SSD Cover: Twist clockwise using the finger grooves to unlock; twist counterclockwise until it clicks into place to lock.

Important Limitations

No SATA SSDs: Not compatible with SATA SSDs.

No heatsink SSDs: Not compatible with SSDs with heat-sinks.

Eject before unplugging: Properly eject the SSD prior to disconnecting the enclosure from the host device. Failure to do so can result in corrupted or lost files.

Disconnect before opening: Ensure the enclosure is not connected to power before removing or installing an SSD.

Cable matters: Please use the included USB4 cable for optimal performance. If a longer cable is needed, ensure it is USB4 or Thunderbolt 5/4 with 40Gbps bandwidth to avoid slower speeds.

Align the cover carefully: Improper alignment of the triangle (arrow) on the cover with the notch on the enclosure may cause the cover to get stuck.
