The Thunderbolt 4 Dock supports up to two external monitors at a time, each up to 4K at 60Hz.
To connect a display, use one of the Thunderbolt 4 downstream ports. For an HDMI monitor, you will need a USB-C to HDMI cable, such as the Satechi USB-C to HDMI 2.1 8K Cable.
How many displays you can run depends on your computer's chip, not on the dock:
- Base model M1 and M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro: one external display only, which is an Apple limitation.
- Base model M3 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro: up to two external displays, but only with the laptop lid closed (clamshell mode).
- M4 MacBook models: up to two external displays.
- Mac mini, Mac Studio, iMac, and Windows PCs: up to two external displays at 4K and 60Hz. For example, an M1 Mac Studio can run two external displays through the dock.
