How to get your iPhone or iPad to recognize the adapter

Confirm your device has a USB-C port, since the adapter needs a USB-C iPhone or iPad, not a Lightning device.
For SD cards and drives, open the Files app to view the contents, since iPhone and iPad do not show a desktop icon.
For an external display, note that an iPhone and most iPads mirror the screen. Extended display needs Stage Manager on a supported M-series iPad.
Plug a USB-C charger into the adapter's Power Delivery port to keep the device charged while accessories are connected.
Reseat the adapter, remove any thick case blocking the port, and update iOS or iPadOS.
