If your computer does not recognize the Satechi USB-C Combo Hub for Desktop (ST-TCHCRS, ST-TCHCRM, and ST-TCHCRB) and none of the ports work, the connection to the computer is the first thing to check. The USB-C Combo Hub for Desktop connects through its attached USB-C cable, which is about 12.5 inches long and is not detachable, so the connector on the computer end is the only connection point. Work through the steps below in order.
Steps to try
- Unplug the USB-C connector and plug it back in, making sure it is fully seated in the Type-C port on your computer.
- Try a different USB-C or Thunderbolt port on the computer. Some ports may be inactive or already handling another accessory.
- Disconnect the USB-C Combo Hub for Desktop, wait a few seconds, then reconnect it.
- Check whether the computer sees the hub at all. On a Mac, open System Information and look under USB. On Windows, open Device Manager.
- Restart your computer with the USB-C Combo Hub for Desktop connected, and install any pending operating system updates.
- Test one USB device that you know works in each USB-A port. The USB-C Combo Hub for Desktop is a data hub for USB 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1 devices and is not a standalone charger, so a device that only draws power is not a reliable test.
- If a memory card is not showing up, insert it with the chip facing up and the label facing down, and push until it clicks. Remember that the SD and microSD slots cannot be used at the same time.
- For a card or drive that still does not appear, check Disk Utility on a Mac or Disk Management on Windows to see whether it is listed but unformatted.
- Connect the USB-C Combo Hub for Desktop to a different computer with a Type-C port. If it is detected there, the original port or computer is the problem. If it is not detected on any computer, the hub itself is at fault.
