If your device is not charging through the Satechi Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable (ST-YTB5100K), start with the connection at both ends and then the charger itself. The Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable is a USB-C to USB-C cable that supports charging up to 240W using USB Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 with Extended Power Range (EPR), and it is plug and play with no drivers to install. Keep in mind that not every device can accept 240W. Work through the steps below in order.
Steps to try
- Unplug both ends of the Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable and plug them back in, making sure each connector is fully seated.
- Look closely at both connectors for bent pins, visible damage, or debris inside the plug. Stop using the cable if either end is damaged.
- Check that you are plugged into a USB-C power adapter. Both ends of the Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable are USB-C, so the charger needs a USB-C output port.
- Try a different USB-C charger and a different wall outlet to rule out the power source.
- Compare the wattage your charger supplies with what your device needs. The Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable carries up to 240W, but the charger and the device also have to support that level, and not all host devices support 240W charging.
- Restart your device with the Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable connected, and install any pending operating system updates.
- Try a different USB-C or Thunderbolt port on the device you are charging.
- Test the Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable with a different device and charger combination. If it charges there, the original device or charger is the problem. If it does not charge with any charger and device pairing, the cable itself is at fault.
