If your monitor shows no picture through the Satechi USB4 V2 Pro Cable (ST-YU4120K), the usual causes are a USB-C port that does not carry video or a resolution setting the connection cannot support. The USB4 V2 Pro Cable is a USB-C to USB-C cable, 1.2 meters long, and it is plug and play with no drivers to install. For video to pass through, the USB-C port on your computer has to support DisplayPort Alt Mode (DP Alt Mode). Work through the steps below in order.
Steps to try
- Unplug both ends of the USB4 V2 Pro Cable and reseat them firmly. Poor contact at either end can stop the display from being recognized.
- Check both connectors for debris or damage before plugging them back in.
- Confirm the USB-C port on your computer supports DisplayPort Alt Mode (DP Alt Mode). Not every USB-C port carries video, so check your device's technical specifications for its supported video output.
- Confirm your display has a USB-C input that accepts video, since both ends of the USB4 V2 Pro Cable are USB-C.
- Try a different USB-C port on the computer, and a different USB-C input on the display.
- Lower the resolution or the refresh rate in your display settings and see whether the picture appears. Very high resolutions and refresh rates need far more bandwidth, and both the computer and the display have to meet the video standard required for them, such as DisplayPort 2.1.
- On a Mac, open System Settings, go to Displays, then hold the Option key and click Detect Displays. Check whether the layout is set to Extend or Mirror. On Windows, open Settings, then System, then Display.
- Install any pending operating system updates, then reconnect the USB4 V2 Pro Cable.
- Test the same display and computer with a different cable, then test the USB4 V2 Pro Cable with a different computer or display. That tells you whether the cable, the computer, or the display is the part at fault.
