If your laptop or device is not charging through the USB4 Pro Cable (ST-YU4120M), the usual causes are an underpowered adapter, a host port that does not support the required protocol, or a connector that is not fully seated. The USB4 Pro Cable is 1.2 meters long and supports up to 240W of charging, but the USB4 port on your host device has to support the Power Delivery 3.1 (PD 3.1) protocol to reach the higher wattages, and not all host devices support 240W charging. Work through the steps below in order.
Steps to fix charging with the USB4 Pro Cable
- Unplug both ends of the USB4 Pro Cable and reconnect them firmly. A connector that is not fully seated is a common cause of no charging.
- Check the rating of your power adapter. To reach the higher wattages the USB4 Pro Cable supports, up to 240W, the adapter has to be able to deliver that power.
- Confirm the USB4 port on your host device supports the Power Delivery 3.1 (PD 3.1) protocol. Without PD 3.1 support on the host, charging is limited to what the host device supports, and not all host devices support 240W charging.
- Try a different USB-C port on the host device and a different port on the power adapter.
- Inspect both connectors on the USB4 Pro Cable for debris or wear before plugging the cable back in.
- Test the same power adapter and device with a different USB-C charging cable to see whether the problem follows the cable or stays with the adapter and device.
- Install any pending operating system updates, then reconnect the USB4 Pro Cable.
