If your monitor shows no picture through the OntheGo 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter (ST-POTG5S, ST-POTG5B, ST-POTG5Y, and ST-POTG5P), the most common reasons are using the wrong port for video or a connection that is not direct. Video only comes out of the HDMI port on the OntheGo 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter, which supports output up to 4K at 60Hz, and the USB-C ports on the adapter do not carry video at all. The HDMI port also only supports direct HDMI connections. Work through the steps below in order.
Steps to fix the display on the OntheGo 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter
- Connect your display to the HDMI port on the OntheGo 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter. The USB-C data port and the USB-C Power Delivery (PD) port do not support video output.
- Use a direct HDMI to HDMI connection between the adapter and a display that has an HDMI input. The HDMI port only supports direct HDMI connections.
- Plug the built-in braided USB-C cable firmly into the USB-C port on your host device. The white LED indicator turns on to confirm the OntheGo 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter is connected and powered.
- Unwrap the built-in USB-C cable fully from the groove on the underside of the adapter, so the connector is not being pulled part way out of the port.
- Switch your display to the correct HDMI input source.
- Keep the resolution at or below 4K at 60Hz, which is the maximum the HDMI port on the OntheGo 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter supports.
- On a Mac, open System Settings, go to Displays, then hold the Option key and click Detect Displays, and check whether the arrangement is set to Extend or Mirror. On Windows, open Settings, then System, then Display.
- Try a different HDMI cable and a different display to rule out a cable or monitor fault.
- Install any pending operating system updates, then reconnect the OntheGo 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter.
