Find your symptom below and work through that section only. Each section is ordered from the most common cause to the least, so stop as soon as the problem clears.
The charger has no power at all
- Plug it straight into a wall outlet rather than a power strip, surge protector, or extension cord.
- Try a different wall outlet, ideally on another circuit, to rule out a dead outlet.
- Check the adapter, cable, and connectors for physical damage, bent pins, or fraying.
- Make sure every connection is fully seated: adapter into the wall, cable into the adapter, cable into the device.
- Use the original Satechi adapter and cable that came with the product.
- If there is a power button or switch, press it to confirm the unit is switched on.
- Unplug for 30 seconds and plug back in to reset it, then watch for the status light.
A phone will not charge on a wireless stand or pad
- Remove any thick case, wallet, or metal plate between the phone and the charger.
- Center the phone on the charging coil. On a magnetic model, let it snap into place.
- Use the wall adapter that came with the charger. A lower wattage adapter can stop wireless charging entirely.
- Confirm the charger has power by checking its status light before blaming the phone.
- Test the same phone on another charger, and another phone on this charger, to isolate which one is at fault.
Charging is slow, or cuts on and off
- Use the adapter that came with the product. An underpowered adapter is the most common cause of slow charging.
- On a multi-port charger, use the high wattage port for a laptop. Wattage is shared and split across ports in use.
- Unplug other devices from the charger and test with only the one device connected.
- Swap in a different charging cable. Cables are rated for different wattages, and a low rated cable throttles the whole chain.
- For a wireless charger, remove the case and re-center the phone. Slight misalignment causes charging to cycle on and off.
The charger feels hot
- Warmth is normal. Chargers, especially GaN models, run warm while delivering high wattage.
- Give it air. Do not charge under a pillow, blanket, or inside a closed bag.
- Stop using it only if it is too hot to touch comfortably, smells unusual, or shows any discoloration.
A car charger is not working
- Make sure the vehicle is running or the ignition is in the accessory position. Many sockets have no power when the car is off.
- Push the charger all the way into the 12V or USB socket so it makes solid contact.
- Test that socket with another device, then test the charger in a different socket, to find out which one is dead.
- Check the fuse for the accessory or cigarette lighter socket and replace it if it is blown.
- Check the connector and cable for physical damage or bent contacts.
A power bank will not turn on or hold a charge
- Charge it for at least 30 minutes with the included cable and a wall charger. A fully drained pack can look completely dead.
- Press the power button to wake it, then check the charge level lights.
- Check the charging port for dust or debris and use a different cable.
- Charge from a wall adapter rather than a computer USB port. A computer port often supplies too little current.
- If it charges but drains quickly, note how many cycles it has been through. Battery capacity falls with age.
Still not working
Only after every step in the matching section above has been tried and the problem is unchanged should this be treated as a hardware fault. Do not skip ahead to this. At that point, have the model name and the result of each step tried, and a Satechi specialist can take it from there.
