SSD Installation Guide: DotDisk™ 80Gbps SSD Enclosure
Before You Begin
- Ensure you have a compatible SSD. The enclosure supports only 2280 M.2 NVMe SSDs up to 8TB. It does not support SATA SSDs, 2230, 2242 or 2260 sizes, or SSDs with pre-installed heatsinks.
- Work on a clean, static-free surface.
- Handle the SSD by its edges to avoid static damage.
Installation Steps
- Open the enclosure: Use the included T5 screwdriver to remove the Top Cover Screw (smaller), then lift the top cover off.
- Locate the M.2 slot: Identify the M.2 connector inside the enclosure.
- Insert the SSD: Align the SSD's connector with the M.2 slot. Insert at a 15 to 30 degree angle, then press down flat.
- Secure the SSD: Fasten the SSD Screw (larger) to hold the SSD flat against the slot. Do not overtighten.
- Apply the thermal pad: Peel the plastic film from the thermal pad and press it firmly onto the top surface of the SSD.
- Close the enclosure: Place the top cover back on with all edges aligned, then tighten the Top Cover Screw (smaller) until snug.
- Connect and format: Connect the included Thunderbolt 5 cable to the enclosure's USB4 V2 port and to a Thunderbolt 5, USB4, or USB-C port on your computer. Open Disk Utility (Mac) or Disk Management (Windows) to format the new drive.
