Ethernet Troubleshooting
Ethernet not connecting on macOS
1. Disconnect the adapter from your Mac.
2. Open System Settings > Network.
3. If "USB 10/100/1000 LAN" appears in the list, click the three-dot menu next to it and select Remove Service. (On older macOS: System Settings > Network, click the minus button.)
4. Reconnect the adapter. macOS should automatically re-detect the Ethernet connection.
5. If it appears but shows "Not Connected," click on it, go to Details > TCP/IP, and click Renew DHCP Lease.
6. If it still does not work, try setting Configure IPv4 to "Using DHCP" and Configure IPv6 to "Link-local only."
Ethernet not connecting on Windows
1. Open Device Manager and look under Network adapters.
2. If the USB Ethernet adapter shows a yellow warning icon, right-click it and select Update driver > Search automatically.
3. If no driver is found, download the driver from the Satechi support page or contact support.
Display and HDMI
What resolution does the HDMI port support?
The HDMI port supports up to 4K at 30Hz. For 4K at 60Hz output, you would need a newer adapter model with HDMI 2.0 or higher.
Can I connect two external monitors?
This adapter has one HDMI port, so it supports one external display via HDMI. Intel-based Macs and M1 Pro/Max/Ultra Macs can also output video through the USB-C port for a second display. Standard M1, M2, and M3 base models are limited to one external display natively through any USB-C hub.
My display is flickering or showing the wrong resolution.
1. Unplug and replug the HDMI cable on both ends.
2. Go to System Settings > Displays and check the resolution setting.
3. Try a different HDMI cable (use a high-speed HDMI cable rated for 4K).
4. Make sure the adapter is connected directly to your Mac's USB-C port, not through another hub or extension cable.
USB Ports
How many USB devices can I connect at once?
The adapter has USB-A ports for connecting peripherals. For best performance with bus-powered devices (like external hard drives), connect only one at a time. Low-power devices like keyboards, mice, and flash drives can be connected simultaneously without issues.
My USB device is not detected.
1. Try a different USB port on the adapter.
2. Test the device directly on another computer to confirm it works.
3. Restart your Mac with the adapter disconnected, then reconnect.
4. On Apple Silicon Macs: Shut down completely, wait 30 seconds, then power on and reconnect.
Pass-Through Charging
Can I charge my MacBook while using this adapter?
Yes. Connect your MacBook's USB-C charger to the adapter's USB-C pass-through port. The adapter supports up to 60W of pass-through charging. If your charger is rated higher (e.g., 96W), the adapter will still work but will cap the pass-through at 60W.
Can I charge an iPad or iPhone through the USB-C port?
The USB-C pass-through port is designed for charging the host MacBook. Smaller devices like iPhones may charge through the USB-A ports, but iPads requiring higher power may not charge reliably through the adapter.
Card Reader
My SD card is not detected.
1. Remove the card and reinsert it firmly.
2. Test the card in another device to confirm it is working.
3. Check Finder > Settings > General (or Preferences > General on older macOS) and make sure "External disks" is checked.
4. Some high-capacity SDXC cards may need to be formatted as exFAT to be recognized by macOS.
General
Does this adapter work with Windows PCs?
Yes. The adapter is compatible with Windows 10 and 11 laptops that have a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode support. Ethernet may require a driver on some Windows machines.
The adapter feels warm during use.
This is normal. USB-C hubs and adapters generate heat during operation, especially when multiple ports are in use or when passing through video and power simultaneously. The aluminum housing acts as a heat sink.
