This Quick Start Guide covers getting started with the Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station with DisplayLink (ST-DT4MDM-US, ST-DT4MDM-EU). The printed User Manual names this product the Thunderbolt 4 Multi-Display Docking Station.

How to set up the Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station with DisplayLink

1. Download the DisplayLink software on your host device by visiting www.satechi.net/display-link. DisplayLink is already installed on Windows operating system (OS). Please ensure all drivers are up to date.

   

2. Connect the included 180W power adapter to the direct current (DC) IN Port on the docking station. Once connected, the docking station will automatically turn on.

   

3. Connect the included Thunderbolt 4 cable from the Thunderbolt 4 Host Port on the right side of the docking station to your host device.

   

4. Connect your devices to the docking station's ports.

How to turn the Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station with DisplayLink on and off

The docking station will automatically turn on when connected to power. To turn the docking station off, press the power button on the front of the docking station. To turn the docking station back on, press the power button again.

Prior to powering off the docking station, ensure all external storage devices are properly ejected. If you don't eject external storage devices properly, data on them may be damaged or corrupted.

Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station with DisplayLink ports and controls

• Power Button: on the front of the docking station.
• Audio Jack (Input / Output): attach an audio device to the 3.5mm Audio Input/Output (I/O) jack. You will need to change sound output and input settings when connecting headphones or a mic (System Settings > Sound > Output & Input > DisplayLink Audio).

  

• Secure Digital (SD) 4.0 Card Slot (UHS-II, short for Ultra High Speed II, short for Ultra High Speed II): supports UHS-II speeds up to 312 MB/s.

  

• USB-A (Universal Serial Bus Type-A) 3.2 Gen 2 Ports (10Gbps): two data ports for fast data transfers and file backups, up to 10Gbps each. The USB-A ports do not support charging or compact disc (CD) readers, including Apple SuperDrive.

  

• Thunderbolt 4 Host Port (PD, short for Power Delivery 96W): on the right side of the docking station.
• 3X Thunderbolt 4 Ports (40Gbps): fast data transfers and external display output, up to 40Gbps and up to 15W each. Supports up to two external displays: 8K/30Hz using a single display connection (Windows only), 6K/60Hz using a single display connection when used with Mac, or 4K/60Hz using a dual display connection.

  

• 2X High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) Video Ports (4K/60Hz): connect up to two HDMI-enabled monitors at 4K/60Hz each. The ports will not function without DisplayLink software.

  

• Ethernet Port (1 Gigabit): connect a Registered Jack 45 (RJ45) Ethernet cable, up to 1Gbps.

  

• DC IN Port (180W)

Important notes for the Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station with DisplayLink

• DisplayLink Manager must be installed and running on host device for full dock functionality.
• The HDMI Video Ports will not function without DisplayLink software.
• Supports up to four displays: two via Thunderbolt and two via HDMI (DisplayLink).
• Apple M1/M2/M3 processors limited to only 3 external monitors while using DisplayLink Manager.
• DisplayLink Manager not supported on iPadOS or iOS.
• Supports daisy-chaining up to six levels via Thunderbolt.
• Thunderbolt 4 supports USB4 (Universal Serial Bus 4) and is downwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and other USB-C (Universal Serial Bus Type-C) peripherals.
