Product Overview

This dock turns a single Thunderbolt 4 connection into a full desktop setup: up to four external displays, two over Thunderbolt and two over HDMI using DisplayLink Manager, plus up to 96W of charging back to your laptop, Gigabit Ethernet, a UHS-II SD 4.0 card reader, two 10 Gbps USB-A ports and a 3.5mm audio jack. Its own 180W power supply drives everything, so the dock never borrows power from your computer.

Setup

This dock is not plug-and-play for its HDMI outputs. It runs on the included 180W power supply, and DisplayLink Manager has to be installed and running on your host device before the two HDMI ports will output anything. The Thunderbolt 4 ports work without it.

1. Install DisplayLink Manager: Download and install DisplayLink Manager on your host device from satechi.com/pages/displaylink-instructions. The printed manual lists this address as www.satechi.net/display-link, which redirects to the same page. On Windows, DisplayLink is already installed, so just confirm your drivers are current.
2. Connect power: Plug the included 180W power supply into the DC IN port on the back of the dock, then into a wall outlet using the included C5 cable. The dock turns itself on as soon as it has power.
3. Connect to your host device: Plug the included 0.8m Thunderbolt 4 cable into the Thunderbolt 4 Host Port, on the right side of the dock, then into the Thunderbolt or USB-C port on your computer.

4. Connect your devices: Connect displays, storage, Ethernet, memory cards and audio to the dock's front and rear ports.

Note: The power adapter and one Thunderbolt 4 cable are included. Before you power the dock off, eject any external storage devices properly, otherwise the data on them may be damaged or corrupted.

Ports and Features

1. Audio Jack (Input / Output): 3.5mm combo jack on the front for headphones or a microphone. After plugging in, select DisplayLink Audio under System Settings > Sound > Output & Input.
2. SD 4.0 Card Slot (UHS-II): SD card reader at UHS-II speeds, up to 312 MB/s.
3. USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 Ports (10Gbps): Two front USB-A data ports, up to 10 Gbps each. They do not support charging or CD readers, including the Apple SuperDrive.
4. Power Button: Turns the dock off and back on. The dock powers on by itself whenever the 180W supply is connected, so this button is only needed to switch it off.
5. Thunderbolt 4 Host Port (PD 96W): The port that connects the dock to your computer, on the right side of the dock. It delivers up to 96W of Power Delivery charging back to the host.
6. 3X Thunderbolt 4 Ports (40Gbps): Three Thunderbolt 4 ports for data and video, up to 40 Gbps and up to 15W each. They drive up to two external displays: 8K at 30Hz on a single display on Windows, 6K at 60Hz on a single display on a Mac, or 4K at 60Hz across two displays. They also daisy chain up to six levels.
7. 2X HDMI Video Ports* (4K/60Hz): Two HDMI outputs, up to 4K at 60Hz each. They run through DisplayLink, so they stay dark until DisplayLink Manager is installed and running on the host.
8. Ethernet Port (1 Gigabit): Gigabit Ethernet for a wired network connection, up to 1 Gbps.
9. DC IN Port (180W): Power input for the included 180W supply, 21V. The dock does not operate on bus power, so this has to stay connected.

Important Limitations

DisplayLink Manager must be installed and running on the host device for full dock functionality. Download it from satechi.com/pages/displaylink-instructions. Without it the dock still works, but only the Thunderbolt 4 ports carry video.

The two HDMI video ports will not function without DisplayLink software. Both HDMI outputs run through DisplayLink, so they output nothing until DisplayLink Manager is installed and running.

Apple M1/M2/M3 processors are limited to only 3 external monitors while using DisplayLink Manager. That ceiling comes from the Apple silicon chip, not from the dock.

Base model M1 and M2 MacBooks and the M3 MacBook Pro are limited to one display over Thunderbolt. On those machines any additional displays have to come from the HDMI ports with DisplayLink Manager.

The M3 MacBook Air supports up to 4 monitors over Thunderbolt and DisplayLink in clamshell mode. Clamshell mode means the laptop lid stays closed while the external displays are in use.

DisplayLink Manager is not supported on iPadOS or iOS. iPads and iPhones can charge and transfer data through the dock, but they cannot drive the HDMI ports.

DisplayLink is already installed on Windows OS. Please ensure all drivers are up to date.

Thunderbolt 4 supports USB4 and is downwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and other USB-C peripherals. USB4, Thunderbolt 3 and other USB-C devices all work in the dock's Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The USB-A ports do not support charging or CD readers, including the Apple SuperDrive. They are data-only ports.

The host device needs Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB4, or USB 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort Alt Mode. A plain USB-C port without one of those protocols will not run the dock's display outputs.
