How to Choose the Right Satechi Hub, Dock, or Adapter for Your Setup
What's the Difference?
Hubs, docks, and adapters serve different needs. An adapter adds a single connection type (like HDMI or SD card). A hub adds multiple ports without charging your laptop. A dock includes power delivery, charging your device while you work.
Decision Tree: Finding Your Perfect Match
Do you need to charge your laptop through the accessory?
Yes: You need a dock with power delivery. Check our docks at satechi.com/collections/docks.
No: A hub or adapter will work. Move to the next question.
How many ports do you need?
Just one or two: An adapter is cleaner and more portable. Perfect for adding HDMI, USB-A, SD card, or USB-C.
Multiple ports (4+): A hub lets you connect several devices at once. Browse our hubs at satechi.com/collections/hubs.
What ports do you need?
- Displays: Look for HDMI, DisplayPort, or Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt supports higher resolutions.
- Storage: USB-A, USB-C, or SD card depending on your devices.
- Audio: 3.5mm jack or USB audio.
- Ethernet: Gigabit Ethernet for fast, stable internet.
- Charging: USB-C power delivery (60W, 100W, or higher depending on your laptop).
Thunderbolt vs USB-C
Thunderbolt offers faster speeds and supports more bandwidth, especially for multiple displays. If you're connecting dual 4K displays or need maximum performance, Thunderbolt is worth it. For basic connectivity, USB-C hubs are more affordable and still very capable.
