If your solid state drive (SSD) is not reaching its advertised speed in the Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure, that is normal. The speeds listed for an NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) SSD come from testing the drive directly inside a computer through an M.2 slot. An external enclosure connects over USB, which works differently and can be slower.
To get the best performance
- Use the USB4 cable that came with the enclosure.
- Plug it into a USB4 or Thunderbolt 3, 4, or 5 port on your computer.
You can also try
- Testing with a different SSD or a different USB-C cable that supports USB4 or Thunderbolt 4.
- Connecting to another Mac, ideally one with Thunderbolt 4 or Thunderbolt 5 ports.
Finally, make sure your Mac is fully updated. Then unplug all USB-C devices and restart the Mac.
