Product Overview

The USB-C Multiport MX Adapter turns one USB-C port into ten connections: two HDMI outputs for a dual monitor setup, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB-A 3.0 ports, a USB-C data port, SD and MicroSD card readers, a 3.5mm audio jack, and up to 85W pass-through charging. The HDMI output runs through the SiliconMotion InstantView software, which you install once before you connect your displays.

Setup

This adapter is not fully plug-and-play. The SiliconMotion InstantView software has to be installed before the HDMI video output will work, so do that first, then connect your screens.

1. Install the app: Download the InstantView app from the SiliconMotion downloads page, select your host device operating system, download the latest driver directly from the SiliconMotion website, then open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen installation assistant.

2. Connect your screens: Plug the adapter's USB-C connector into the USB-C port on your host device, then connect your displays. The two HDMI ports are labeled on the adapter, 4K/60Hz and 4K/30Hz.

On macOS

1. Drag the InstantView application into the Applications folder.
2. Find the InstantView app in your Applications folder and open the app.
3. Upon opening, macOS will prompt you to allow the downloaded application. Click "Open".
4. Once the application has been opened, connect the adapter to your host device.
5. Upon initial setup, InstantView will ask for permission for the following under Privacy & Security in Settings: Files and Folders, which is necessary for the adapter to access the InstantView app files, and Screen Recording, which is needed to activate the secondary screen. The application and the adapter will not record your screen.
6. Once given permission, you will need to restart the app to activate the new settings and permissions.
7. When connecting a secondary HDMI monitor, there will be an InstantView pop-up. To disable this pop-up from appearing every time, right-click on the app icon in the menu bar and select "No Pop-up App on Plugin".

1. USB-C Connector: The attached USB-C cable that connects the adapter to your host device.
2. USB-C PD Port (100W Input)(85W Output Max): USB-C Power Delivery port for pass-through charging. It accepts up to 100W from your charger and passes up to 85W through to your device, because the adapter draws roughly 15W for its own operation.
3. USB-C Data Port (5Gbps): USB-C port for data transfer, up to 5 Gbps.
4. SD & MicroSD Card Reader (UHS-I): SD and MicroSD card readers running at UHS-I speeds.
5. Audio Jack Port: 3.5mm audio jack for headphones or speakers.
6. 2X USB-A 3.0 Ports (5 Gbps): Two USB-A 3.0 ports for data transfer, up to 5 Gbps each.
7. Ethernet Port (1 Gigabit): Gigabit Ethernet for a wired network connection, up to 1 Gbps.
8. HDMI Video Port (4K@30Hz): HDMI output supporting up to 4K at 30Hz. This is the port the manual marks with an asterisk as requiring the SiliconMotion InstantView software.
9. LED Indicator: Lights up when the adapter is connected and powered.
10. HDMI Video Port (4K@60Hz): HDMI output supporting up to 4K at 60Hz.

Important Limitations

The 4K@30Hz HDMI port needs the SiliconMotion InstantView software before it will output video: The 4K@60Hz port works without it. Install InstantView first if you plan to use the 30Hz port, then connect your display. Updated drivers can be downloaded from the SiliconMotion downloads page.

On macOS, InstantView needs both Files and Folders and Screen Recording permission. Grant both under Privacy & Security in Settings, then restart the app so the new permissions take effect. Screen Recording is only used to activate the secondary screen, and neither the app nor the adapter records your screen.

The two HDMI ports do not run at the same refresh rate. One port is rated up to 4K at 60Hz and the other up to 4K at 30Hz. Both are labeled on the adapter, so check the label before you plug a display in.

The USB-C PD port passes through up to 85W, not the full 100W it accepts. The adapter draws roughly 15W for its own operation, so a 100W charger delivers up to 85W to your device.

An InstantView pop-up appears every time you connect a second HDMI monitor. To stop it, right-click the app icon in the menu bar and select "No Pop-up App on Plugin".
