Find your symptom below and work through that section only. Each section is ordered from the most common cause to the least, so stop as soon as the problem clears.
It will not turn on
- Charge it for at least 30 minutes with the included cable and a wall charger. A fully drained battery looks exactly like a dead unit.
- Find the power switch on the underside or the edge and confirm it is set to on.
- If the device takes replaceable batteries, fit a fresh set and check they face the right way.
- Check the charging port and contacts for dust, debris, or damage.
- Try a different charging cable and a different wall adapter.
- Watch for a charging or status light. No light usually points to the cable or power source rather than the device.
A wired keyboard or mouse is not responding
- Unplug it and plug it back in, pressing firmly at both ends.
- Try a different USB-C or USB-A port on the computer.
- Plug directly into the computer rather than through a hub or dock.
- Test it on another computer to find out whether the fault is the device or the port.
It will not pair over Bluetooth
- Power the device off and back on.
- On a Mac, open System Settings, then Bluetooth, find the device, and choose Forget This Device.
- Put the device back into pairing mode, then connect it again from the same screen.
- Move within one metre of the computer while pairing.
- If the device supports multiple paired channels, press the channel button to select the one you want before pairing.
- If it uses a USB receiver instead of Bluetooth, reseat the receiver in a different port.
It connects but does not type or click
- Test it in a different app to rule out one app misreading the input.
- Test it on another computer or device to separate hardware from software.
- On a Mac, open System Settings, then Keyboard, and run Change Keyboard Type if the layout is wrong.
- Check that the correct operating system mode is selected if the device has a Mac and Windows switch.
Keys double type, or the pointer lags
- Charge it fully. Low battery is the most common cause of dropped and repeated input on wireless models.
- Move away from other 2.4GHz devices, USB 3 hubs, and wireless chargers, which all share that band.
- Unpair and re-pair the device.
- Move the USB receiver to a port on the other side of the computer, or use a short extension so it sits away from the metal chassis.
- On a Mac, open System Settings, then Keyboard, and lower the Key Repeat rate to test whether the behaviour changes.
Still not working
Only after every step in the matching section above has been tried and the problem is unchanged should this be treated as a hardware fault. Do not skip ahead to this. At that point, have the model name and the result of each step tried, and a Satechi specialist can take it from there.
