What You Get
The Aluminum Type-C Pro Hub Adapter connects directly to your MacBook Pro's USB-C ports and adds HDMI video output, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD and Micro SD card reader, and a USB-C pass-through charging port. It sits flush against the side of your MacBook for a clean, integrated look.
Setting Up Your Pro Hub
Plug the Pro Hub's dual USB-C connectors into both USB-C ports on your MacBook Pro. When properly connected, a small LED on the side of the hub will light up. If the LED does not turn on, unplug and reseat the connectors firmly.
Important: If you have a hard shell laptop case, remove it before connecting the Pro Hub. Most cases add enough thickness to prevent a secure connection.
Understanding the USB-C Ports
The Pro Hub has two USB-C connectors, and they are not identical:
Port 1 (closest to HDMI): Supports pass-through charging up to 87W and video output up to 5K. Use this side for charging your MacBook while the hub is connected.
Port 2 (farther from HDMI): Designed for data transfer only. It can power small devices like an iPhone but does not support pass-through charging for laptops or iPads, and does not output video.
Connecting an External Display
Connect an HDMI cable directly from the hub's HDMI port to your monitor. Use a direct HDMI-to-HDMI cable for the best results. Your screen may flicker briefly when switching video sources; this is normal and should resolve within a few seconds.
Display limitations by Mac model:
Intel-based MacBooks and M1 Pro/Max/Ultra MacBooks support dual external displays (one via HDMI, one via USB-C). Standard M1 and M2 MacBooks support only one external display natively through this hub. M3 and newer base models may also be limited to one display without third-party software like DisplayLink.
Connecting USB Devices
The two USB 3.0 (Type-A) ports support flash drives, external hard drives, keyboards, mice, and other standard USB devices. They are backward compatible with USB 2.0. For stability, connect only one bus-powered external hard drive at a time. The Apple SuperDrive is not compatible.
Using the Card Reader
Insert your SD or Micro SD card into the corresponding slot. Your Mac should detect the card automatically and mount it on your desktop. If the card does not appear, try removing and reinserting it, or check Finder > Preferences > General to make sure "External disks" is enabled.
Troubleshooting
Hub not recognized or ports not working:
1. Unplug the hub, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect it.
2. Try a full restart of your Mac (not just sleep/wake).
3. On Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2/M3/M4): Shut down completely, wait 30 seconds, then power back on.
4. On Intel Macs: Perform an Shut down your Mac completely. Wait 30 seconds, then press the power button to turn it back on. (On Intel Macs, you can also try an hardware controller reset: shut down, hold Shift+Control+Option+Power for 10 seconds, then release and power on.) by shutting down, holding the power button for 10 seconds, releasing, then powering on.
5. Test with a different USB-C cable or port if available.
HDMI display not working:
1. Unplug the HDMI cable from both ends and reconnect.
2. Go to System Settings > Displays and check if the external display is detected.
3. Try a different HDMI cable. Some older or low-quality cables may not support 4K output.
Ethernet not connecting (Pro Hub with Ethernet model):
1. Go to System Settings > Network and check if "USB 10/100/1000 LAN" appears.
2. If it does not appear, remove the hub, wait 10 seconds, reconnect, then check again.
3. If it appears but shows "Not Connected," click on it and select "Renew DHCP Lease" under Details > TCP/IP.
