Recommended SSD Specifications
The Thunderbolt 5 CubeDock with SSD Enclosure accepts M.2 NVMe SSDs in the 2280 form factor (22mm wide, 80mm long). When choosing an SSD for your CubeDock, keep the following in mind:
What type of SSD do I need?
You need an M.2 NVMe SSD with an M-key or B+M key connector in the 2280 size. SATA M.2 drives are not compatible. Look for drives labeled as NVMe or PCIe on the packaging. Common compatible drives include models from Samsung, Western Digital, Crucial, and other major SSD manufacturers that offer M.2 2280 NVMe drives.
What is the maximum SSD capacity supported?
The CubeDock SSD enclosure supports M.2 2280 NVMe drives in commonly available capacities including 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. For the latest information on maximum supported capacity, check the product specifications on satechi.com or contact Satechi support.
Will the CubeDock support future 8TB or 16TB SSDs?
The SSD enclosure follows the standard M.2 2280 NVMe specification. As long as future higher-capacity drives use the same M.2 2280 NVMe form factor, they should be physically compatible with the enclosure. However, Satechi cannot guarantee compatibility with drives that have not yet been released or tested. We recommend checking back for updated compatibility information as new drives become available.
I bought the wrong SSD. What should I do?
If you purchased a SATA M.2 drive instead of an NVMe M.2 drive, it will not work in the CubeDock. You will need to return the SATA drive and purchase an NVMe M.2 2280 drive instead. The key difference is that NVMe drives use the PCIe interface and are significantly faster than SATA M.2 drives. When shopping, look for "NVMe" on the product listing.
