If your solid state drive (SSD) does not reach its advertised speed in the Satechi Mini NVMe SSD Enclosure, that is expected. Those speed ratings come from internal testing where the drive connects directly inside a computer through an M.2 slot. An external enclosure connects over USB, which has its own speed limits.
The Mini NVMe SSD Enclosure uses USB 3.2 Gen 2, up to 10Gbps, so speeds will be lower than an internal M.2 connection.
To get the best results
- Make sure your NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) drive is formatted to APFS or ExFAT.
- Plug the enclosure into a USB-C port that supports 10Gbps or more (USB 3.2 Gen 2, or a Thunderbolt or USB-C port).
You can also try
- Testing with a different SSD.
- Reformatting the drive to another supported format.
- Connecting the enclosure to another computer that has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt port.
Finally, make sure your system software is up to date.
