High-performance SSDs can cause frequent disconnects and reconnects on some Android devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, especially during file transfers.
Why it happens: high-performance SSDs (for example, WD Black) can draw a lot of power during transfers. Many Android phones, including Samsung models, enforce a USB 3.0 current limit of 900mA. If the SSD exceeds that limit, the phone's overcurrent protection briefly cuts power to the USB-C port, then restores it, creating a repeating disconnect cycle.
Suggested fix: use a lower-power SSD, such as the WD Green, which draws less power and is less likely to trigger the phone's overcurrent protection.
