If your DotDisk 80Gbps SSD Enclosure (ST-EDD80C, ST-EDD80S) does not mount, or drops off during use, check the drive, the cable, and the format.
How to get the DotDisk to mount and stay connected
- Connect the DotDisk to a Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 5, or USB4 port that runs at 40Gbps or faster, using the included cable. The DotDisk does not work on a standard USB-C port or a USB 3.x port, which is a common reason it does not appear.
- Confirm the SSD is seated fully and is a supported NVMe drive. NVMe is the fast M.2 drive standard the enclosure is built for.
- Open your computer's disk tool to find the drive. On Mac, open Disk Utility. On Windows, open Disk Management.
- Format a new drive before first use. For use with a Mac only, format the drive as APFS. To use the drive on both Mac and Windows, format the drive as exFAT. Avoid NTFS, since a Mac can read NTFS drives but cannot write to them.
- Avoid unpowered hubs, and plug the enclosure directly into your computer.
